Growing American Youth - Our Meetings

So what's a Growing American Youth meeting like?

Each week begins with some informal time to see friends and talk and catch-up. We then get together as a group for "check-in", a time for each member to introduce him or herself and talk about how their week has been going and share any recent struggles or triumphs.

Depending on the week, we may also break into smaller groups to discuss a specific topic (coming out, parents, etc) or work on a project. Our meetings are purposely informal, fun and active -- just like GAY members!

All GAY meetings and activities are facilitated by a group of adult advisors.

Ropes
Anyone attending our meetings is expected to follow ROPES, our guiding principles for our time together:

  • Respect - for yourself and each other
  • Openness - to explore new ideas
  • Participation - to be a part of the meetings, whether actively or quietly
  • Escuchar - Spanish for "listen" to what is being shared with the group
  • Safe Zone - for all members, advisors, and visitors.

Your Expectations
When attending a GAY meeting you should...

  • ...expect neither sexual contact nor sexual advances from advisors.
  • ...expect no verbal, sexual, or physical harassment.
  • ...expect to learn, make new friends, grow, and have a great time!

GAY follows an official "Safe Space' policy to ensure the safety and well-being of all youth who participate in the organization.
